Services and Access for Patrons with Disabilities

The libraries are committed to providing access to information resources and services to all library users on an equal basis. To arrange appropriate individualized services at the Ralph Brown Draughon (RBD) Library, contact the Reference Desk at 844-1737.

Entrances

The Mell Street entrance located on the second floor of RBD Library is accessible through designated parking spaces behind Mary Martin Hall, a wheelchair ramp, and an automatic door.

The Roosevelt Drive parking deck has several designated parking spaces located on the third level which give access to the first floor entrance by way of an automatic door.

Elevators

All floors of RBD are accessible by elevators. Elevator controls are at wheelchair level and have braille indicators.

Reference and Information Services

All reference and information service points provide assistance with library materials. Persons requiring extensive research assistance should contact the appropriate area in advance.

Photocopying

• Wheelchair accessible photocopiers are available on floors 1 through 4. For extensive assistance, library users should make arrangements in advance.

  A wheelchair accessible microfilm reader/printer (which can be converted to read microfiche) is available on the first floor adjacent to the Service Desk. There are also 3 strengths of magnifying lenses available for all the reader/printers.

Assistive Technology Lab

The Assistive Technology Lab, available only to persons with disabilities, has opened on the Second Floor of the Ralph Brown Draughon Library. The lab features assistive technology equipment moved from the lab’s former location on the First Floor.

The lab has both a card swipe and a proximity switch for access. Card access is controlled through the Students with Disabilities office. If a disabled person not affiliated with Auburn University needs access, the Circulation Department staff can let him or her in.
