Carter D. Poland's Technical Data of Cotton Series, ca. 1939
 3.  Close-up focusing devise on camera held in hand about eighteen inches from plants.  50-mm lens.
 5.  90-mm lens at four feet for better perspective at close-up.
 6.  35-mm wide angle lens for greater depth of focus, light yellow filter.  Cotton fields are among the most difficult of photographic subjects.
 7.  90-mm lens about three and a half feet from the plant, light yellow filter.  It is essential in pictures such as this that the lens be as wide open as possible so that the material wanted will be in focus and the background out of focus.
 8.  35-mm wide-angle lens and light yellow filter.
 9.  Sliding copy device, 60-mm extension tube, 50-mm lens, two # 1 photo floodlights in reflectors.
10.  Sliding copy device, 30-mm extension tube, 50-mm lens, two 75 watt bulbs in reflectors.  A posed picture with the insect stupefied by ether.  In taking pictures of insects it is much better that the insect be in an inactive stupor rather than insensible.  In this condition the insect appears alert instead of dead.  It is necessary that week lights be used in taking such pictures as the heat from the photo floodlights quickly revives the insect.
11.  Sliding copy device, 20-mm extension tube, 50-mm lens, two # 1 photo floodlights in reflectors.
12.  Sliding copy device, two 60-mm extension tubes, 50-mm lens, two # 1 photo floodlights.
13.  Picture made without a microscope, although the egg is only lightly larger than the point of an ordinary pin.  Sliding copy device with 5X magnifier for critical focus, two 60-mm, two 30-mm, one 20-mm extension tubes, 50-mm lens, two # 1 photo floodlights, one above and the other below the specimen which was suspended on a glass slide above a dark cloth.  Most of the magnification came through the use of the enlarger.
14.  50-mm lens with light yellow filter giving a decided third dimension to this picture.
15.  Sliding copy device, 30-mm extension tube, 50-mm lens, two # 1 photo floodlights in reflectors.  5X magnifier for critical focus.
16.  Same Data as # 15.  [Sliding copy device, 30-mm extension tube, 50-mm lens, two # 1 photo floodlights in reflectors.  5X magnifier for critical focus.]
17.  Same Data as # 15.  [Sliding copy device, 30-mm extension tube, 50-mm lens, two # 1 photo floodlights in reflectors.  5X magnifier for critical focus.]
18.  Sliding copy device, 60-mm extension tube, two # 2 photo floodlights in reflectors, 50-mm lens.
19.  Same data as # 18. [Sliding copy device, 60-mm extension tube, two # 2 photo floodlights in reflectors, 50-mm lens.]
20.  Same data as # 18. [Sliding copy device, 60-mm extension tube, two # 2 photo floodlights in reflectors, 50-mm lens.]
21.  Sliding copy device, 50-mm lens, two 75 watt bulbs with reflectors.
22.  Sliding copy device, 60-mm and 30-mm extension tubes, 50-mm lens, two 75 watt lights in reflectors.
23.  Sliding copy device, 60-mm extension tube, 50-mm lens, two 75 watt lights in reflectors.
25.  Sliding copy device, 20-mm extension tube, 50-mm lens, two two # 1 floodlights and reflectors, dark background.
[Photo Unavailable] 26. Stormy day, very cloudy, no filter used.
27.  Same data as # 25.  [Sliding copy device, 20-mm extension tube, 50-mm lens, two two # 1 floodlights and reflectors, dark background.]
29.  Limited space required 35-mm wide angle lens for greater depth of focus, flashgun, Wabash # 2 bulb.
30.  Sliding copy device, 30-mm extension tube, 50-mm lens, two # 1 floodlights in reflectors.
32.  Limited room, 35-mm lens, synchronized flash, Wabash bulb #2.
33.  Same data as # 32.  [Limited room, 35-mm lens, synchronized flash, Wabash bulb #2.]
35.  35-mm wide angle lens for greatest depth of focus, flashgun, #2-A Wabash bulb at 1,000th of a second.  This picture has unusual depth for a flash picture.
36. 35-mm lens, synchronized flash, #2 Wabash bulb, depth not wanted in this picture.
38.  Sliding copy device, 50-mm lens.
39.  Flash picture.
40.  Flash picture.
41.  Picture flashed, 35-mm lens.
42. Flash picture.
43.  Sliding copy device, two #1 photo floodlights in reflectors.

45.  Same data as #43.  [Sliding copy device, two #1 photo floodlights in reflectors.]
