Historical or Biographical Sketch:
James Maxwell Dean was the son of George C. Dean of Monroeville, Monroe County, Alabama. He attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute, (now Auburn University) from September 1921 to May 1925. Prior to attending API he was a student at Monroe County High School. He was the student editor of the college's 1925 yearbook and student handbook. He graduated that same year with a degree in architecture.

Scope and Content:
Consists of photographs collected by J. Maxwell Dean of the Alabama Polytechnic Institute campus, including many landmark buildings. Other photographs document university officers, athletic teams and the marching band, campus social events, city of Auburn scenes, and Dean's personal photos. A number of these photos appear in the 1925 yearbook the Glomerata.
