Historical or Biographical Sketch:
John Brett Shirey was a student and football player at Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) from 1918 to 1922 and later from 1927 to 1928. He was a resident of Guin, Marion County, Alabama prior to attending college. Shirey was Class President, captain-elect to the football team and member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering in 1923. He is believed to have died in Phenix City, Alabama in October of 1966.

Scope and Content:
Consists of newspaper clippings from November and December of 1922, and concerns the Alabama Polytechnic Institute football team and the career of Auburn football player John B. Shirey. Includes a report on mechanical engineer Joseph Henry written in 1920 by Shirey, a copy of the 1922 Glomerata, the Alabama Polytechnic Institute yearbook, and a souvenir program for the January 2, 1926 Jacksonville (Fla.) All-Stars vs. Chicago Bears football game.
