Biographical Sketch: John Steiner's family owned these documents, probably passed down from nineteenth century ancestors.
Scope / Content: Three letters plus one promissory note. One letter describes Battle of Chickamauga.
October 2, 1863: From Unsigned [son of Bryce Wilson], Camp Near Chattanooga to "Dear Father," Mr. Bryce Wilson, Russellville, Ala. Letter torn and taped, w/ missing pieces. 4 pages. Describes Battle of Chickamauga.
January 28, 1870: From J[ms.] S. Hill, Baltimore, Md., to "Dear Friend" [in Russellville, AL]. 4 small pages, well preserved. Describes Christmas holiday visit to Washington, DC, w/ sister of "one of the students," and compares life in Baltimore w/ that in Russellville.
October 7, 1898: Promissory note from J. W. Landers to A. J. Avery to sublease "a certain tract of farming land . . . known as Baba rents" during 1899, for $150. Tax stamps, witnessed.
October 10, n.d.: From M. S. to "Dearest Lucy," Russellville, Ala. Trite assurances of friendship and overblown clichés of advice.
