Biographical Sketch:  Modern warfare began in World War I, and each brother comments on different aspects of the war.

• Laurence – 1^st Lieutenant, A. S. U. S. A.,  1^st Army Observation Group, American Expeditionary Force; a navigation aviator; documents the beginnings of war aviation.

• Melville – served in the U.S. Navy (division and rank unknown); describes the German U-boat and naval life.

• Norman – 311^th Infantry, Army Expeditionary Forces; experienced trench warfare on the French front; possibly killed in battle.

Scope / Content:  Contains letters from Laurence, Melville, and Norman Selleck to their parents while they served in World War I.
