Scope / Content: Collection consists mainly of Boyd's correspondence while at Auburn. Also contains a lecture by Boyd on light, his single annual report to the Board of Trustees, and correspondence of Boyd's son concerning the writing of a history of the College.

History: Colonel David French Boyd replaced Dr. William LeRoy Broun as President of Alabama A&M College for a single year, 1883-1884. Broun had resigned because the Board of Trustees refused to reorganize the College along his suggested lines. French endorsed Broun's ideas and threatened to resign within three months of his appointment if the Board did not implement them. Though the Board did as French wished, he resigned nevertheless to resume his Presidency of Louisiana State University.
