Recommended language for manuscript contracts

When faculty and professional staff publish scholarly works, they are often asked to sign contracts or agreements with the publisher. We recommend that faculty read these agreements carefully. It is particularly important to ensure that the author reserves the right to continue to utilize the work at Auburn University. Therefore, we suggest that authors add the following statement to their manuscript contracts:

"Notwithstanding the above language, I reserve the right to use this manuscript in my teaching and research, for my colleagues at Auburn University to use this manuscript in their teaching and research, and I also reserve the right to place an electronic copy of this manuscript on a publicly accessible web site."
