Finding Music and Sound Recordings in AubieCat
http://aubiecat.auburn.edu
To find music materials in AubieCat, use a Keyword Search.
"Keywords" are important words or concepts found in the title, subject, headings, summary, etc. of books and other library items.
Note: Don't worry about capitalization or punctuation, but correct spelling is important.
1. Type your search term(s) into the Search for field.
Note: Use a question mark to find variations on a word.
Example: symphon? (searches: symphony, symphonies, etc.)
2. Select from the drop-down list whether you want to search for all the words, any of the words, or the words as a phrase.
3. Click on the option you want to Search by: Keyword Anywhere, Title, Subject, Author Name, etc.
4. If you want to further limit your search:
Select which Boolean operator you want applied to the next search term(s): AND, OR, or NOT.
5. Click the Search button to execute search.
The above example will look for AubieCat records that include the phrase "West Side Story" and the word "sound" anywhere in the record.
Finding Scores
1. Type your search term(s) into the first Search for field.
Example: concert? horn mozart
2. Select NOT on the next line.
3. Type 'sound' (without quotes) into the next Search for field.
This will limit your search to records that do not have the word 'sound' (as in 'sound recording') in them and should retrieve only records for books and scores.
Finding Sound Recordings
Sound recordings include compact discs, vinyl LPs, and audiotapes. To search for these discs, see the card catalog next to the 1st floor service desk.
1. Type your search term(s) into the Search for field. All records for compact discs, tapes, and vinyl records include the phrase 'sound recording' in the description, so include the word 'sound' (without quotes) in your search string.
Example: ellington black tan sound
2. To limit your search to only compact discs, include the word 'compact' in your search term(s).
Example: monteverdi vespers compact
