Telecom will be installing new switches in the library starting at 7 am in the morning (Tuesday, 02-22-2005). The process is expected to be complete by 8 am.
What does this mean? There will be interruptions in network connectivity for parts of the first floor of the library during this time. Unfortunately, the library servers (AubieCat, Spot/Ezproxy, www.lib, tigger/contentdm, diglib, etc) will have interuptions in their connection to the internet at times during the switch over. So, you may not be able to access these sites for a a few minutes at a time between 7 and 8 am.
Why are we doing this? The new switches are faster and will provide better access, particularly for the web pages served from library servers. This installation is a step in the process of moving the library servers to a new, more secure, better airconditioned location within the library. This will provide not only better service, but also better physical security for the servers.
Thanks in advance for your patience. We'll be back in full operation as quickly as possible. And some of you will likely never know that anything happened at all.
The AU Libraries are in the process of upgrading to a new version of Voyager, the automated system used to create the library catalog, acquire books and journals, and circulate materials. The upgrade began in early January and is ongoing, with periodic software updates. A number of problems with searching and ordering materials have already been identified; the library has reported these problems and is working with the vendor to get them resolved. AU faculty, staff, and students can help by reporting problems relating to this upgrade to the Library Systems Department. The primary contact person in the department is Denise Cosby at 844-1798. If Denise is not available, please report problems to Jon Bell, at 844-1766. The e-mail address for reporting problems is libhelp@auburn.edu.
The AUBIECat system will be undergoing an upgrade February 15. You may experience intermittent interruptions with the AUBIECat system. We apologize for any inconvenience.
If you are not able to use the AUBIECat system an alternative is available at http://pooh.lib.auburn.edu
