The Libraries
The combined collections of the Auburn University Libraries contain over 1.7 million volumes as well as 1.1 million federal publications (i.e. government documents), 1.8 million microforms (i.e. microcard, microfiche, microfilm, and microprint), and 125,000 approximately maps. The Libraries receive approximately 18,000 and 160 current newspapers. Books are classified by the Library of Congress (LC) system, and are arranged in open stacks by broad subject discipline.
The Ralph Brown Draughon Library is the main research library on campus,
and is approximately 400,000 square feet in size. It houses the
following library departments:
Acquisitions,
Archives,
Automation,
Cataloging,
Circulation (including interlibrary loans and reserve),
Humanities and General Information,
Microforms and Documents,
Science and Technology,
Serials,
Social Sciences,
Special Collections, and
Systems. There are two branch libraries: the Architecture Library
and the Veterinary
Medicine Library.
