Microforms Collection

The Microforms Collection is composed of materials in four different formats. These are:

  • microfilm ..................................................88,303 rolls
  • microfiche ..............................................1,647,863 sheets
  • microcard .................................................159,921 sheets
  • microprint ................................................236,000 sheets

With the exception of a few microforms housed in the University Archives and the Cary Veterinary Medicine Library, all microforms are centralized in the Microforms and Documents Department located on the first floor of the main reasearch library, Ralph Brown Draughon Library.

Microforms reading equipment and copiers are also located in the same area. Self-serve copies from microfilm or microfiche are:

  • $0.20 per sheet when using coins (with some reader/printer machines only dimes are accepted),
  • $0.16 per sheet when using an AllCard (a debit card), or
  • $0.25 per sheet ($1.00 minimum) for microfiche-to-microfiche copies.

Change machines are available at the the Photocopy Center located on the second floor near the main Circulation Desk. AllCards may be purchased in the same general area for $0.50. You may add additional money to an AllCard.

In addition, portable microform readers are available for check-out by students, faculty, and staff for home or office use. There are three microfilm readers and three microfiche readers. A normal loan period is established based upon the user's valid I.D. After two weeks reading machines may be recalled for use by another library user.
