Access Services of Information Services consists of three separate units: the Circulation/ReserveSecurity Services, Stacks Maintenance, Document Delivery Services (i.e. Interlibrary Loan). The Circulation/Reserve/Security Services is responsible for the checking out and checking in of items that circulate from RBDL and deals with problems arising from that process (overdues, lost or damaged materials, etc.). It is also responsible for placing items that instructors want their students to use on Reserve where they circulate for limited periods of time (2 hours, one-day, seven days, etc.) and checking these items in and out. Current Periodicals Collection contains most unbound or current periodicals (i.e. journals and magazines). The exceptions are those current periodicals related to science and technology which are shelved on the fourth floor.

Distance Education/Outreach Services. With a Library ID, distance education students can access most of the online resources which are available through the Libraries. Some of these indexes, e-books, and e-journals are restricted to the AUL IP and can be accessed remotely only with a computer that is configured to access the Libraries' proxy server. ( For directions on accessing See proxy server.) Items in the libraries' collection that circulate can be checked out by distance learners. These include books, reports or Federal government documents owned by AU Libraries. AUBIECat is the web catalog through which these items can be located.

Document Delivery Services (i.e. Interlibrary Loan) of Access Services is responsible for processing requests for books or journal articles not owned by the University Libraries. These items can often be obtained through Interlibrary Loan from libraries at other institutions or from commercial vendors. Certain types of materials cannot be obtained. These may include very old or fragile materials, special collection materials, bound and unbound periodicals, a-v materials, computer software and oversize items. Auburn University faculty, staff and enrolled students are eligible for this service. All others should contact their local public library. Document Delivery Services is open Monday-Friday, 7:45 am - 4:45 pm. Electronic requests forms can be found on the AUBIECat. AUBIExpress provides the on-campus delivery of journal articles, book chapters, and books owned by AU Libraries - Faculty, staff, and graduate students only.

InfoQuest is a document delivery and customized research service that provides rapid and easy access to information contained in the library's collection. The staff of InfoQuest can also obtain information not owned by the Auburn University Libraries. InfoQuest is designed for alumni and non-Auburn affiliated clientele whose information needs may not be covered by the libraries regular services. Through InfoQuest, materials, such as, journal articles and book chapters, may be photocopied and sent to the requestor. InfoQuest is offered as a non-profit cost recovery service. Fees enable Auburn University Libraries to extend responsive and enhanced services.

The Juvenile Literature Collection supports the curricular, research, and scholarship activities of the students and faculty of the University. Adults are the intended users of this collection, which contains a broad spectrum of materials published for all ages through young adults. The library seeks to provide quality collections, information/reference services, and instruction in a timely and effective manner to students, faculty, staff and community who use the Juvenile Literature Collection.
The Reference Desk of the Reference & Instruction Services Department collects and houses materials reference and general information sources (e.g. encyclopedias and almanacs). Library faculty are available for walk-up, telephone, e-mail, and InfoChat assistance. Appoinments may be scheduled for more indepth consultation.
