For off-campus or AU Wireless use, you need to install VPN software. This will allow you to establish a Virtual Private Network connection to the Auburn domain.


[edit] SciFinder Scholar 2007 for Windows

You do not need to uninstall earlier versions of SciFinder Scholar before installing SciFinder Scholar 2007.

1. Download the file sfs2007.exe to the computer desktop.
When prompted for a User Name and Password:
User Name = AU Username
Password = OIT password
Domain Name = auburn
If there is no Domain Name box,
then use AU Username@auburn.edu or auburn\AU User Name
2. Download the site preference file to the computer desktop. You will need to move this file to c:\sfschlr as described in step 8 or you will be unable to connect to SciFinder Scholar.
3. Double click SFS2007.exe to begin installation of SciFinder Scholar. Accept the defaults offered during installation.
4. If you have already installed an earlier version of SciFinder Scholar, you will be asked if you wish to overwrite the old version. Answer Yes.
5. Select the Typical set-up option.
6. Answer No when asked “Do you have a disk labeled Custom Site Files?”
7. Select the Finish button to complete installation.
8. If this is the first time you have installed SciFinder Scholar on your computer, you also need to download the site preference file (see step 2.) and save it to the SciFinder Scholar directory. If you accepted the default directory during installation, this is C:\sfschlr.

[edit] SciFinder Scholar 2007 for Mac OS X (10.3 and higher)

You do not need to uninstall earlier versions of SciFinder Scholar before installing SciFinder Scholar 2007.

1. Download sfs2007a.dmg.zip to your desktop or a download folder on your OS X drive.
When prompted for a User Name and Password:
User Name = AU Username
Password = OIT password
Domain Name = auburn
If there is no Domain Name box,
then use AU Username@auburn.edu or auburn\AU User Name
2. If necessary, open the downloaded zip archive to expand it, then open the resulting disk image (dmg) to mount it. The mounted disk image is called SciFinder Scholar 2007.
3. Copy the SciFinder Scholar 2007 application from the mounted disk image to your Applications folder (or wherever you would like to keep it).
4. Eject the SciFinder Scholar 2007 disk image. You may also delete the disk image (dmg) and zip archive from steps 1 and 2.
You can open SciFinder Scholar 2007 from your Applications folder. Drag it to the Dock for handy access in the future.

[edit] SciFinder Scholar 2006 for Mac OS X (10.0 to 10.2)

YYou do not need to uninstall earlier versions of SciFinder Scholar before installing SciFinder Scholar 2006.

1. Download SciFinder Scholar.zip
When prompted for a User Name and Password:
User Name = AU Username
Password = OIT password
Domain Name = auburn
If there is no Domain Name box,
then use AU Username@auburn.edu or auburn\AU User Name
2. Unzip.
3. Drag the application to the Applications folder.
4. Make a desktop shortcut if desired.

[edit] SciFinder Scholar 2004 for pre-OS X Macs

1. Download sfs2004.hqx to the computer desktop.
When prompted for a User Name and Password:
User Name = AU Username
Password = OIT password
Domain Name = auburn
If there is no Domain Name box,
then use AU Username@auburn.edu or auburn\AU User Name
2. Download the site preference file to the computer desktop. You will need to move the site.prf to c:\sfschlr as described in step 5 or you will be unable to connect to SciFinder Scholar.''
3. Use a decompression program, such as "Stuffit Expander", to expand sfs2004.hqx.
4. Open the file sfs2004.hqx and accept installation defaults.
5. If this is the first time you have installed SciFinder Scholar on your computer, you also need to download the site preference file (see step 2.) and save it to the SciFinder Scholar directory. If you accepted the default directory during installation, this is C:\sfschlr.
