[edit] What is VPN?
Short for Virtual Private Network, VPN software makes it appear that you are on-campus, even if you are using an off-campus computer or AU Wireless. This is useful for resources that are limited to on-campus use, such as the database SciFinder Scholar and the Vet Med slides.
[edit] Download VPN software
- VPN software discussed on this page is available only to Auburn University faculty, students, and staff.
An Auburn University User ID and OIT password are required to download and use the VPN software. If you are faculty, staff, or student, and do not have an Auburn University User-ID, contact the Technology Hotline at 844-4944. If you have forgotten your password, you will need to visit the OIT Help Desk.
- Go to AU Install.
- Log in with your User ID and password
- Scroll down until you come to Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client.
- Download and install the Windows or Macintosh version of Cisco AnyConnect VPN client onto your computer. Look for the installation and configuration instructions. The "Tutorials & Troubleshooting" link can help get you started.
- You are now ready to establish a VPN connection and use VPN.
[edit] Using VPN from off-campus or via AU Wireless
- Go to the Start Menu.
- Choose Programs, then Cisco System VPN Client, then VPN Dialer.
- Choose AU Off Campus and click on the Connect button in the VPN Client. If you are using AU Wireless, then choose "AU Wireless" instead.
- In the User Authentication window, enter your AU User Name and password and click on OK.
- Click on Continue when the Cisco System VPN Client window opens.
- You should now be connected the AU network and able to use SciFinder Scholar or the Vet Med slides.
- If you wish to use an Internet browser, open a new Internet browser window, or refresh any that you already have open.
