AUL Systems Department
The mission of the AUL Systems Department is twofold: to support the AU Libraries’ technology infrastructure; and to identify, deploy, manage, and support information technologies that will help Auburn faculty members teach and Auburn students learn.
Currently, the Systems Department has seven main areas of responsibility:
- Server support
- Desktop support
- The OPAC, federated search, article linking, and new search interfaces
- The Digital Resource Laboratory (DRL) and related learning technologies
- Web design and management of the AUL Web space
- Programming and custom software development
- Digital projects, digital preservation, and scholarly communication
The Digital Resource Laboratory's mission is to help Auburn University students, faculty, and staff use multimedia technology in their class assignments and course projects. The DRL has five full-time staff members and offers a comprehensive array of multimedia hardware and software, including high-end Windows and Macintosh workstations, large-format color printers, flatbed and slide scanners, digital cameras, and an audio-video editing studio. It has proven to be one of the libraries' most popular services.
The Auburn University Digital Library (AUDL) is a specialized unit of the Auburn University Libraries. Its purpose is to develop accessible digital collections of materials that support the teaching and research of Auburn faculty and students, and that, in turn, further the mission of Auburn University. Based in the Ralph Brown Draughon Library, the AUDL draws on a variety of collections-including the rich holdings of Auburn University's Special Collections & Archives Department-and makes them available to educators and students in Alabama and beyond. The AUDL also plays a leading role in promoting digital library projects and digital preservation initiatives with other colleges, universities, and libraries in Alabama.
