Archive of Americana Multiple Database Search Feature

The Readex NewsBank company has added a multiple database search feature that allows researchers to simultaneously search across the three Archive of Americana databases to which Auburn University Libraries subscribe.  The three databases include:

Early American Imprints, Series I, Evans (this database is a full-text digitization of the microform set, Early American Imprints, Series I (1639-1800), which was itself based on the American Bibliography of Charles Evans and enhanced by Roger Bristol’s Supplement to Evans’s American Bibliography.  Offers fully searchable text and a browse feature with topical indexes.  Evans Digital Edition makes available the full text of nearly every book, pamphlet, and broadside published during this period);

American State Papers, 1789-1838 (a major collection of U. S. federal government documents, the American State Papers consist of bound volumes of all reports, documents, and journals of the U. S. Senate and House of Representatives for the years 1789-1838.  The American State Papers are the predecessor to the U. S. Congressional Serial Set which begins with the 15th. Congress in 1817 and continues through the present.  The digitization of the Serial Set is being done in stages by the Readex NewsBank company and currently is available for the 15th. – 58th. Congress (1817-1904).  Eventually, this database will provide coverage through the 96th. Congress (1980);

Heavily-Used Materials Made More Available

In order to ensure that heavily-used library materials are readily available for all patrons, fines for two categories of library materials will change on January 2, 2007.  The two groups of materials affected by this adjustment are recalled items and materials with special loan periods such as bound journals.

For these two categories, the current rate of $0.50 per day will change to $1.00 per day.  When another patron needs checked-out materials, books may be recalled seven days after they have been checked out.  Once a recall is placed, a patron has seven fine-free days to return the item.

New Self-Service Checkout Machines

The Ralph Brown Draughon Library has just replaced its self-service checkout machines located at both the Mell Street entrance and Parking Deck entrance with new 3M V-Series SelfCheck checkout machines.  The new machines operate by touch-screen and provide a fast, accurate checkout experience.  The V-design ensures that books are in place correctly even for first-time users of the machines.  The screens provide instructions but library staff will also be available for assistance if needed.

Make sure you have your A.U. faculty, staff, or student i.d. card with you since it functions as your library card and is needed to operate the new self-service checkout machines!
