The message below concerns the establishment of a blog that provides useful information concerning the library database, Independent Voices . The database is an ongoing digitization project supported in part by Auburn University Libraries that chronicles the transformative decades of the 60s, 70s and 80s through alternative press magazines, journals, and newspapers. This interdisciplinary project is of interest to women and gender studies, sociology, political science, history, communication and multicultural studies among others.
Dear Independent Voices supporter,
Several weeks ago I was contacted by Jeremy Guida, who just finished his PhD at University of California Irvine. Jeremy spent two years researching the underground press. Independent Voices was an important tool in his work. Jeremy said he was interested in writing a blog for us and I delightedly accepted his offer! We decided to call our blog Digging the Underground.
Yesterday we published Jeremy's first blog post, Remembering the Human Be-In. The blog post makes for great reading and is scholarly to boot. I think you will find his posts will be helpful in better understanding the value of the content in the collection. Also, our hope is the blog will be a great internal marketing tool for you to raise awareness of Independent Voices with faculty members who are teaching and researching in areas related to the late 20th century culture.
We expect to publish a new blog post every one to two weeks, with guest bloggers filling in from time-to-time. Next week look for another blog post from Jeremy about our latest addition to Independent Voices, East Village Other. There is currently no way to subscribe to the blog, but we'll be fixing that soon. In the meantime, I'll send you a quick note when new entries are added.
