The Moon and the Stars:  New and Collected Stories

Marian Carcache, Auburn University Department of English

Reading and Booking Signing

Date and Time:  Thursday, March 20 at 3 p.m.

Location:  Special Collections and Archives, Ground Floor, Ralph Brown Draughon Library

"A natural born storyteller, Carcache is the Eudora Welty of the Chattahoochee Valley, or at least the part along U.S. 431 south of Phenix City, where the sheriff once suggested that there was something in the water that caused so much craziness to go on all the time.  Anyone who delights in good Southern writing will go for these stories the way Sammy Dunn goes for the scrambled eggs and sausage at the Courtesy Grille" - Jim Buford, fiction writer and essayist.

Sponsored by:  Auburn University Libraries, the Auburn University Department of English, and the Auburn University Bookstore.

Second Cup:  Collected Columns

Mary Belk, Auburn Village and Opelika Auburn News

Reading and Book Signing

Date and Time:  Thursday, March 6 at 3 p.m.

Location:  Special Collections and Archives, Ground Floor, Ralph Brown Draughon Library

"Mary Belk pulls you into her frank and funny world with her first, well-chosen words.  Then entertains you till the resolution of each essay.  She is a master of the form and knows instinctively what things really matter.  It's harder to write about everyday pleasures and obstacles than politics.  Harder but more rewarding.  She sticks to the verities, so Mary Belk's themes won't need footnotes in a year or two.  This is a fine collection." - Rheta Grimsley Johnson, Syndicated Columnist and Author.

Sponsored by:  Auburn University Libraries and Auburn University Bookstore.
