Organizational Sketch:   Organized in 1947 as the Alabama division of the Southern Regional Council. Began as an organization to promote interracial dialog, the council supported the Civil Rights Movement, then evolved into a self-help agency delegating private and public funds for programs to help the poor.


Scope / Content:   Correspondence, brochures, speeches, reports, and newsletters on the Alabama Council of Human Relations, a civil rights group, during the tenure of Nathaniel Welch as its president.  Also some newspaper clippings of that era appearing in 1961, 1974, 1995.
