Biographical Sketch:  Peter Gushue was a doctoral student at University of Alabama whose dissertation concerned development of aviation in Peru, particularly the PANAGRA corporation.  Pan American Grace Airways was formed in 1928 by W. R. Grace & Co. and Pan American Airways inc. Played a leading role in developing commercial aviation in Peru as Peruvian Airways Corporation. Contributed to the development of Peruvian industry and mining. With central offices and shops in Lima PANAGRA developed a network of routes in South America, linking with North America via Miami. PANAGRA had an important role in securing the United States prominence in the developing South American commercial aviation market, including air cargo, airmail, and passenger transportation.

Scope / Content:  Folders 1-4: photocopies of advertising material, flying schedules, maps of routes, articles and photographs on PANAGRA published in the "New West Coast Leader", arranged chronologically. Folder5: transcripts of interviews by Lawrence A. Clayton with former "panagristas": Douglas Campbell, William Creamer, Gr. Harrold Harris and Carlos Velarde.
