Praxis: a journal of writing and building is a nonprofit journal published twice yearly by an all-volunteer staff*. Each issue contains articles relating to a common theme (i.e. a current design problem or topic). Praxis delves into its topics by addressing both theory & practice, and making connections in order to present an integrated view of architecture for academics and professionals; it attempts to "bridge the gap" between theory & practice.

*One of the editors, Benjamin Gilmartin, spoke at the APLA Fall Lecture series in August 2012.

Baseline, the International TypoGraphics Magazine, was originally published in 1979 as promotional material by Letraset. It made a reputation for itself because of its inclusion of objective editorial content. The subject matter is type and typography: According to its website, the purpose of the publication is "to reflect all aspects of type, including its design, history, use, and links to the graphic, art and craft scenes."
