NHGIS covers social and economic topics from 1790 through 2000.  When complete, this database will provide data for various levels of geography, such as the Nation, States, and Counties, back in time to their creation.  Other geographic levels will be available only for the years following their creation by the Census Bureau (i.e., Tracts, which were first introduced in select cities in 1910).  Registration is required:  researchers are automatically registered when they agree to all conditions for use.
