Published in 2004 in 17 volumes, and edited by Michael Hutchins et al, this is the Second Edition of the original work published in Germany in 1960.  It is completely revised and updated and incorporates recent developments in the animal world as noted by prominent advisors and contributors from the scientific community.

This title is part of The Gale Virtual Reference Library:  a database of 18 encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multi-disciplinary research published by Thomson Gale.  These works fall under the subjects of Business, the Environment, History, Literature, Medicine, the Nation and the World, Science, and Social Science.  Additional individual works will be profiled in forthcoming What's New library updates.
