Auburn Alumnus Lecture

Sigma 1 Receptor:  A Novel Therapeutic Target for Retinal Degeneration

Dr. Sylvia Smith, Regents Professor and Chair of Cellular Biology and Anatomy, Medical College of Georgia; Professor of Ophthalmology, Medical College of Georgia; and Professor of Graduate Studies and C-Director, James and Jean Culver Vision Discovery Institute, Georgia Regents University

Date and Time:  Wednesday, April 8 at 4 p.m.

Location:  Ralph Brown Draughon Library, Ground Floor, Caroline Marshall Draughon Auditorium

A 1977 graduate of Auburn University with a BS in Speech and Hearing Science, Dr. Smith complete an MA at  The University of Illinois before completing a Ph.D. in Basic Medical Science at The University of South Alabama.

Dr. Smith is an expert in cellular and molecular biological studies of retinal function under normal and diseased conditions.

In 2009 Dr. Smith was named a Fellow of the Association for Research and Ophthalmology.
