German Rocketeers in the Heart of Dixie:  Making Sense of the Nazi Past during the Civil Rights Era

Dr. Monique Laney, Assistant Professor of History, Auburn University

Date and Time:  Thursday, September 24 at 3 p.m.

Location:  Special Collections and Archives Department, Ground Floor, Ralph Brown Draughon Library

Dr. Laney's new book examines the integration of German rocket specialists and their families into a small southern community at the end of World War II.  It links the Cold War, the "Space Race," and the Civil Rights era, addresses important issues of transnational science and technology, and asks Americans to consider their own history of racism when reflecting on the Nazi past.
