An exhibit featuring Dean Katherine Cater is currently on display in the Special Collections and Archives Department of the Ralph Brown Draughon Library. 

Katherine Cater (1914-1980) served as Dean of Women and Dean of Student Life at Auburn University from 1946-1980.  The exhibit, located in the five flat glass display cases on the east side of the Special Collections and Archives Department, features numerous photographs, biographical informational captions, plus a variety of manuscripts and publications connected to female student life at Auburn such as a pamphlet titled Co-Etiquette, and a booklet providing guidelines for what to wear and when.  The exhibit also features photographs and information about Cater Hall, the former President's Mansion, built in 1913.

The Special Collections and Archives Department is located on the Ground Floor of the Ralph Brown Draughon Library.

Construction work is proceeding rapidly on the Second Floor of the Ralph Brown Draughon Library.  The Learning Commons area, featuring greatly expanded study areas with a major increase in electrical outlets for laptop computers, etc., is nearly complete.  Also to be located in the Learning Commons will be offices for the Jack Miller Writing Center, the Study Partners tutoring service, and the Office of Information Technology.  New wood-paneled offices have been constructed for a centralized Reference Department as well.  Over the holidays, new carpeting was installed in Second Floor office areas and on the Third Floor.

An exhibit concerning Camp Opelika, a World War II prisoner of war camp, is currently on display in the Special Collections and Archives Department.  The exhibit is located in a small glass flat case next to the entrance to the Alabama Collection room in the Department.

Camp Opelika was operated as a prisoner of war camp from 1942 to 1945.  The text of a camp report indicates that in 1943 there were 3012 German prisoners of war housed there.  The exhibit features photographs, a blueprint, and some realia including a postage stamp with Adolf Hitler's portrait and German currency.

The Special Collections and Archives Department is located on the Ground Floor of the Ralph Brown Draughon Library.

An exhibit featuring the 190th. anniversary of Alabama's statehood is currently on display in the Special Collections and Archives Department.  The exhibit is located in the three upright glass cases on the north side of the department (facing Samford Hall).

Alabama became a state on December 14, 1819.  The exhibit features informative captions about the history of the state and a variety of books and illustrations concerning early statehood, state symbols, politics, and culture.

The Special Collections and Archives Department is located on the Ground Floor of the Ralph Brown Draughon Library.

An exibit titled "Christmas Memories:  Family, Food & Friends" is currently on display in the three large glass exhibit cases located immediately upon one's left when entering the Special Collections and Archives Department.

The exhibit features a variety of holiday season recipes submitted by library staff such as "Nana's Melt-in-you-Mouth Sugar Cookies" by Joyce Hicks and "Red Velvet Cake" by Joyce Ledbetter.  Along with the recipes, the exhibit features many colorful books about Christmas and holiday season recipes and cooking.

The Special Collections and Archives Department is located on the Ground Floor of the Ralph Brown Draughon Library.
