The estate of Dr. Harry Philpott, President of Auburn University from 1965 to 1979, recently donated a complete set of the Eleventh Edition of The Encyclopaedia Britannica.  The Eleventh Edition (1910-1911) is considered to be one of the most collectable and contains articles by many famous and soon-to-be-famous authors.  The set donated to the Auburn University Libraries is the regular quarto sized edition rather than the "handy volume" edition published in octavo size.  The Special Collections and Archives Department, located on the Ground Floor of the Ralph Brown Draughon Library, also holds the Presidential records of the Philpott Administration and over 20 hours of oral history interviews with the late Dr. Philpott.

The Eleventh Edition of The Encyclopaedia Britannica is currently on display in the Special Collections and Archives Department in the five flat glass display cases located on the east side of the department.

The Special Collections and Archives Department was recently presented with the donation of an Auburn University keepsake quilt originally given to Polly Philpott, wife of A.U. President Harry Philpott, in 1980 by the Auburn University Campus Club.

The quilt features 49 muslin squares appliqued or embroidered featuring numerous Auburn scenes including campus buildings including the Draughon Library, War Eagle, a map to Toomer's Corner, the Tiger, the University Seal, and more.

The quilt was originally presented to Polly Philpott at a luncheon held in her honor and a "Goodbye, Polly" musical review in 1980.  The late Harry Philpott served as Auburn University's president during the period 1965-1980.  The quilt will be put on display later this year.
