The Special Collections and Archives Department, located on the Ground Floor of the Ralph Brown Draughon Library, has recently acquired the papers of Mr. Larkin Wade, Emeritus Professor of Forestry and Retired Extension Specialist.

Wade, an Auburn alumnus (BS and MS degrees) joined the Alabama Extension System (ACES) in 1965.   Mr. Wade worked as an extension forester, was promoted to head of the natural resources staff, and later was named W. Kelly Mosley Environmental Professor in the Auburn University School of Forestry.

Starting in 1965 ACES underwent several major reorganizations in order to comply with civil rights legislation.  Ultimately, extension staff specialists were merged in several academic departments in the late 1980's.

The Larkin Wade Papers provide information concerning the work of an extension specialist during an era of multiple reorganizations of the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service.   Included in the collections is an oral interview with Wade.

This collection is now available to researchers in the Special Collections and Archives Department, Ground Floor, Ralph Brown Draughon Library.
